A report of Elder Substance Abuse in
San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties and recommendations
for strategies to address the needs of older adults at risk
of substance abuse/misuse.
About the Report
The Elder Substance Abuse (ESA) study concludes the initial
phase of a planned five to seven year commitment to bring
substance abuse prevention and treatment services to older
adults in the bi-counties of San Luis Obispo and Santa
Barbara, California. By design, this study:
- Identifies the impact of alcohol and prescription medications on at-risk elders.
- Assesses community-driven commentary concerning the often hidden of elder substance abuse.
- Articulates meaningful strategies to develop appropriate elder-specific services to both prevent and treat substance abuse.
